Community Hammam Experience: Women Only – Registration Required
As part of the Fez Gathering, this program explores the cultural significance of water in both Moroccan and Brazilian traditions, focusing on the role of community hammams in Fez. These bathhouses are essential hubs where people gather, engage in cultural rituals, and strengthen social bonds.
The experience will feature a unique duo performance: Brazilian performer and artist Cris Marcondes will showcase water rituals from Brazilian traditions, while Moroccan storyteller Zakia Elyoubi will share stories about water’s importance in Moroccan culture, particularly within the hammam context. Together, they will offer a captivating exploration of water’s role through ritual, storytelling, and performance.

Hamza will guide participants through the intricate relationship between water, art, and culture, demonstrating how these elements are intertwined in Moroccan heritage. The program will include a hands-on workshop and a lecture, where attendees will explore the symbolic and practical roles of water in traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and music. Through this exploration, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of water’s influence on local art and culture.
