Gardens of Fez

Directed by Heidi Vogels (Netherlands)

Gardens of Fez is a poetic documentary by filmmaker Hedi Vogels that explores the hidden gardens and water systems of Fez once central to the city’s cultural and social life, but now largely neglected.

Through the memories of a schoolteacher, the research of an architect, and the voices of artists, gardeners, and performers, the film weaves together stories, rituals, and everyday practices that reveal a profound connection between water, memory, and urban life.

Blending reality and imagination, the film portrays these gardens as spaces where past and present, the sacred and the everyday, continuously intersect. It reflects on how these disappearing environments still shape collective memory and offer a lens through which to understand the evolving identity of the city.

SAMA: To Listen

Directed by Darek Mazzone (United states)

SAMA: To Listen emerges from this lifelong search for connection, unfolding as a meditation on music not simply as sound, but as a form of presence that moves between cultures, histories, and inner lives.

Filmed across Morocco, Turkey, and Malaysia, the film follows a series of encounters with musicians, Sufi practitioners, and instrument makers who carry forward traditions where listening is understood as a pathway to truth.
